TAX INFORMATION

Tax Statements
Payment of taxes is the responsibility of the owner. Tax statements are mailed sometime after November 1st and prior to December 15th. If you own property in Wichita County and do not receive your statement, please contact the County Treasurer’s Office at 620-375-2715. Taxes are due regardless of the fact that you may or may not have received a statement. Second half reminders are mailed sometime in April.

Real Estate Taxes
Real estate taxes are due December 20th and taxpayers have the option of paying half or the full amount at that time. After December 20th and until May 10th, the first half plus interest can be paid. If not paid by May 10th, the full tax amount plus interest must be paid. There is no longer the option of paying the first half after May 10th. If taxes are due and unpaid for three years the property is subject to tax foreclosure by the county and can be sold at public auction.

Personal Property Taxes
As a taxpayer, you have the option of paying the first half of personal property taxes by December 20th. If the first half was paid by December 20th, then the second half is due by May 10th. After December 20th, the full amount of personal property taxes (including gas and oil) are due plus interest. Full unpaid personal property taxes are sent to the Sheriff for collection in March and unpaid gas and oil are sent to the gas and oil companies for collection. Second half unpaid personal property taxes are sent to the Sheriff for collection in August and unpaid gas and oil taxes are sent to the gas and oil companies for collection.

Tax Roll Corrections
All tax bill corrections are issued by the Wichita County Appraiser and Clerk then approved by the Board of County Commissioners. The County Treasurer’s office receives the information and issues a corrected tax bill. Reductions will be reflected on the second half payment if taxes are not paid in full. Fully paid taxes with a reduction will create an overage resulting in a refund.
